Window Seat - A bliss

The craze

A lot of people, including me, still have something for the window seat. Be it car, train, airplane; the desire for getting a window seat is never ending.

The first time I got my very own window seat was during my class 2, in my school bus. I still remember crying for a window seat that got my cousin into a fight with the boy. Those were the days..

Later on, during my class 6, I went to Kerala for the first time for a Karate Tournament. I still remember the journey like yesterday. I didn't get my seat and it was given to a Japanese trio. Japanese are the nicest people you can meet. They first insisted me to use the seat while he adjust with his friends but then we decided to share the seat.

Their Indian guide did not like the way they were talking to us that he kept on saying things like "If you disturb the foreigners, I'll cancel your tickets and get you out of the train". But one of the three asked him to stay out of this. God I can only imagine how embarrassing that would've been.

I wish I saw anime back then, so that I would've impressed them with my bad Japanese xd. We spoke about karate, taught them Tamil, and they even let me listen to Michael Jackson on their iPod. Never once they showed discomfort in sharing their seat. And I slept at night, during when they left the train and went on their path. I wish I stayed awake to bid them farewell.

Train Trip

Every time I get a window seat during travel, I mostly plug in my headphones, play songs and I start to feel the music as the wind dashes through my face. A lot of time, what goes through my mind is a fake concert, where I'm singing the song that's currently playing. Sometimes, I simply stare at random things that happen on the side, like dogs chasing, poles I cross, look at buildings,

I took this picture on my way to Madurai from Trivandrum, 2019

slums on the railside, the polluted sewers, etc. Those are the time I used to think about the world affairs, problems like pollution, population, resources exploitation, deforestation because other time, we have enough time to think about our problems and stuffs.

One time, I used to write verses when admiring the view I come across. I lost that small handbook I use :( I get ideas mostly during travelling because that's the only time I don't worry about anything. And that's only possible if I get a window seat.

Bus Trip

After writing my class 12 boards, I went to Bangalore alone and that was my first time travelling alone. I stayed awake until 2 am since I don't want to miss my stop that I'll reach by 6 am in the morning. All that time, I just lied down on my sleeper and watched all the street lights I came across from 1035 pm to 2 am. Alarm rang around 5 am, I woke up and started to listen to every call the cleaner gives to get down at my stop. Even after all these, I checked the stop name through my window, had my google maps open and asking my neighboring seat uncle if this is my exit.

Once I got down on my stop, I called my brother to pick me up. He said, "Go to nearby auto stand, ask them to drop you here" and cut the call. It's because of him I was able to keep up with unknown locations. It was a funny trip actually but I got an idea of what to do and how to keep up with an unknown location. It was memorable trip because the next time I went to Bangalore, I didn't go out but partied with my gang.

I haven't gone on a airplane or a cruise ship yet. So once that's done, I'll post my thoughts on them as well in another post. Share your memorable window seat moments below. See you guys in next post.

Peace.
