My recent trip to Varkala is something I'll never forget. I went on a 2 day trip to Varkala to attend my college class advisor's marriage. Also I planned to visit my college while returning to collect all the certificates and mark statements that's with them.
I was gaming as usual and one evening, a friend of mine WhatsApp me the invitation and asked me if I'm willing to come. For me, it was a good chance to go out and touch grass. Though I thought twice about going out, I decided to join them. I usually don't go to trips like these. So I tried my best to use this marriage as an opportunity and go out.
The Trip
As planned, we left our home and reached Varkala. It was good to meet my college friends as I never saw them since farewell. So after small chat and 40 minutes travel, we arrived at the hotel room the staff arranged for us. The water was freaking cold and there's no heater. I was used to bathing on cold water and so I was able to manage it. Then we went to the staff's home and ate our breakfast. Then we decided to go out but since we didn't see the bride yet, we decided to wait until they arrive, But they never came until 3 pm. We went to their home by 11 am.
So around 2.40, we decided to leave and come back later since we got bored waiting for them to arrive. The lunch was good, but the size of the rice is bigger compared to what I eat and so I struggled to finish my food. After 50 minutes struggle, I completed my food and we left for Varkala beach, We reached Varkala Beach around 5:15 pm since we walked 2.5 km from the bus stop to the beach.
During the walk, I witnessed a lot of houses' styles and how they were all ruined by the rain, growing algae, trees and stuffs. It was like as if I'm walking into a movie set. Every house is unique in its way and the basement is elevated, maybe to prevent flood and other calamities, I don't know. And I was a little scared since the weather report said it might rain heavily during our visit. But luckily, the rain was not heavy.
The Vibe
The beach was pretty neat and it gave me Kovalam vibes. It's been two years and still I remember the feeling I felt when I stepped on Kovalam and I felt the same kinda feeling when I stepped on Varkala. Both the sides, there were cliffs, unfortunately we weren't able to go to the cliffs due to lack of time and transport facility. Maybe the next time if I visit Varkala again, I'll try visiting it.
Then like usual tourists, we played on the beach, took pictures, and watched sunset. I felt this feeling that I don't know how to express but its like a moment of relief when I sat on the rock and starred at the sun and the waves. Maybe it's because I touched grass after a ling time? Maybe it's because I'm obsessed with the travel? Maybe I have something to do with the beaches? I can't find the answer. I guess few things are better left unknown and just feeling it is more than enough.
To be honest, I hated beach for a very long time. My only swimming experiences was within a swimming pool. The first time I saw a sea was kanyakumari, followed by Tiruchendoor and Rameshwaram. All religious places. I hated sea back then. I still remember denying entering the kanyakumari sea as I was so scared and my relatives teasing me for knowing swimming and scared to enter the sea. This followed by my visit to Marina beach where I felt a sign for the first time. And ever since, I took a liking to sea and beach. I haven't been to a lot of seashores, beaches. My trips were handful, shangumukham, kovalam and varkala are the other beaches following marina that I've been to.
Since my Varkala trip was short and I was not able to take a tour around, I don't know what else to update about the trip except visiting the beach, meeting new people, smoking and drinking. So it was, on overall, not a trip but a visit. And I think there's nothing else left to talk about it on that regard.
Soon, I've planned to go on places and write about my experiences there. I know, my astrophotography is still on the waiting list, but I hope things will turn out eventually. See you guys in the next post. Peace.
